Peter
Avilés, publisher of Rincon Online,
has deep roots in Rincon. Peter's family has lived in Rincon
since the times of the
Spanish Main. One
side of the family originates from the city of Avilés in
Spain
and the other originates from the Mediterranean isle of
Corsica. Peter’s father was a political figure in Puerto
Rico; his mother was the daughter of a key
Rincon town official, who served as special advisor to
several Rincon Mayors during his forty-year career.
Peter has lived on and off in Rincon since his
early childhood. While in school, Peter began to surf after watching
several airmen stationed at nearby Ramey Air Base ride the
waves. Peter and his childhood friends would spend all their
summers on the beaches of Rincon. While attending the
University of
Puerto Rico,
he married his sweetheart of all those summers, who is now the
Principal of the Rincon High School.
After college, Peter traveled to
New York City
and worked for Goldman Sachs, where he received advanced
computer training. Upon the birth of his first son, Peter
returned to Rincon and worked as an English teacher, while
attending Interamerican University. As the Viet-Nam war raged
on, Peter received a draft notice from the US Army and chose
an opportunity to join the Air Force, where he trained in
Avionics. He later returned to New York, where he attended the
City University of New York and Cornell University, while
working with City and State housing agencies. Eventually,
Peter became a Housing Expert, utilizing his computer skills
to streamline government housing programs and make them more
efficient.
Peter later moved to the private sector, relocating to
South Florida
as a Housing Executive. He later started a private consulting
firm, Apple Consulting Corp., which has served many clients in
the U.S., the Caribbean and Central America in Real Estate,
Business Management, Lodging, Communications, Entertainment
and Community Affairs.
Several years ago, during a Summer stay in Rincon, Peter realized
the need for branding Rincon under a recognizable name,
particularly on the Internet. He decided to start a web
site about Rincon. Today, www.Rincon-PR.com is the best known
and most visited Rincon Internet portal and I Love Rincon
signs are a familiar sight in Rincon.
Working with local business people, as well as past and present
Rincon Mayors and Town officials, Rincon|Online helps organize
and promote events that take place in Rincon and
promotes Rincon at
U.S.
tourism events. When in Rincon, Peter can be easily spotted
driving the "Rincon Surf Patrol” (named after a yellow
Volkswagen beetle that Peter drove around the beaches as a
youngster, in search of the best waves), a promotional vehicle
that travels to major tourist spots in Puerto Rico, to attract
even more attention to Rincon.
Does Peter live in Rincon? "Rincon is not just a place, it's a
lifestyle.” Peter likes to say. Peter is constantly traveling
on business and frequently returns to meet with Rincon
business people, community leaders and government officials,
also to spend time with his large Rincon family. Peter and his
wife, Heidi Carlo, are planning to spend even more time in
Rincon when construction of their latest Rincon residence,
Amapola House, is completed.
Does Peter still surf? The old hand injury makes it difficult to
surf, but he loves to dive the waters near
Desecheo
Island and snorkeling at Steps Beach. Peter truly loves Rincon
and is constantly thinking of new ways to promote it in a
positive manner. During the Summer, Peter takes the USA
version of the Surf Patrol, a Hummer H3, far and wide to
promote Rincon.

Eight years
ago, we attempted to find the main web site for Rincon.
There was none, so we launched this enterprise as a hobby. The
results have been awesomely surprising. Since our inception, our stat service has logged over one billion hits from
hundreds of thousands individual visitors. To achieve
this, we've created a
complex online network, designed to attract an ever-increasing
amount of web traffic to Rincon. We also strive to stay in the top listings of the major search engines.
That is why the best Rincon establishments advertise in our
pages.
It is also why we continue to be the best-known and most
trusted Rincon portal.
Besides showing the best of Rincon to the world, we also
devote plenty of time and effort to help make Rincon a better
place. As a member of the
Tourism
Association of Rincon,
we support the hard work of its leadership in ensuring that
Rincon gets a good share of the tourism market. Rincon
Online is also a member of the
Surfrider Foundation
and generally supports its ecological efforts in Rincon.
As a main sponsor of the
Rincon Triathlon,
we donated the design, hosting and maintenance of their
website, which has helped the organizing committee bring in
more international participation than ever before. We've
also donated the design, hosting and maintenance of the
Rincon Municipal web site.
Our site also provides free promotional space for the
activities of Rincon non-profit and community organizations. Our latest contribution towards the improvement of the quality
of life in our town,
The
Rincon Community Guide,
demonstrates the level of our continued commitment to Rincon.
In order
to best serve the interests of our clients, we maintain high
standards of practice and ethics. We do not accept
advertising from businesses that are not in Rincon (the Rincon
Beach Resort is less than a mile from the current town limit,
on land formerly claimed to be a part of Rincon).
All of the fine establishments that
advertise in our pages have been
visited, inspected and approved by the
Rincon Online Guide.
Their web sites are sporadically
visited to ensure that what you see online, is what you
actually get when you arrive.
In all, it's been
many wonderful years of doing cool things and meeting great
people- just wait till you see what we have in store for the
future! Meanwhile, we give heartfelt thanks to our
visitors, sponsors and online partners, for their ongoing
support and trust. In return, we promise to continue to
be the best and most comprehensive online source for Rincon,
Puerto Rico.
